We’ve had a slight issue with user registrations over the past few weeks that I’ve finally been able to rectify. Unfortunately, as a result, all of those registration requests which were submitted had to be deleted in order to correct the problem. So, if you attempted to sign up for an account this month, and either never received your verification e-mail, or just plain had an issue with registering, please give it a try once more.

If you still can’t get through, please, by all means, drop me an e-mail to isyldar@uruexploration.net, and I will correct any problems manually. My sincere apologies for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

I have long wanted to have more flexibility in the site for its various members; allowing everyone to have their own Imager section, and to allow them to create their own Texts, and even to add pages to Texts that already exist. Well, now that’s possible. To create an Imager (or Imagers!), you can use the ‘Write Page’ tool and the D’ni Imager template to create 1 or more Imagers and upload your photos to the site.

Also, if you’d like to add new pages to the texts that we’ve got set up here, feel welcome to do so! You can also create your own for various topics that may not already have been covered.

Of course, there’s going to be some moderation, and if something is not appropriate for the site, the Admins are going to be able to review and pull it if necessary. However, with the crew that we’ve got here, I’m fairly confident that won’t be an issue.

Hey All,

Just a note that I’ve had to go through the site and disable a few links just to clean things up. I removed links in the sidebar to a few places like CCN Central, and the URU Guilds page. If you come across any others that need to be taken down, or updated, let me know either by email (isyldar@uruexploration.net), or by commenting on this post.

Hey folks!

This is just a “head’s up” to let you know that another back-end upgrade has taken place. With the release of WordPress 2.7, it seemed time again to do a little maintenance on the site. So, if any of you ran into the maintenance-mode screen this morning, my apologies.

However, the good news is that we have a fancy new Dashboard to work with, along with several upgraded plug-ins that should make everything run just that much smoother.

First, I must apologize for all the “suspicious activity” over the past few days. The URU Exploration site did get hacked, and had a couple links uploaded to it that were doing some rather nasty things, and caused both Google and certain Internet Security apps (Norton on my box) to flag the site as trouble. The good news, is that I’ve removed the malicious links that were embedded on the site, and the back-end software has been updated, so as to hopefully prevent that from happening again.

I’ve just checked against Google today, and the suspicious flag has been removed from the site:

I’ll be posting about this on the Site News portion of the site as well, and making sure that I get an e-mail sent out to everyone who’s subscribed so that those of you who do stop by can rest assured that the problem is fixed, and that there really are real people behind the site, and not info thieves.

I’d also like to add, that the request for a First and Last name entry on the site, doesn’t require your real, personal info. So long as the information is filled in, and looks legit, we’re happy. (For instance, I use, “Isyldar Saaren”). I don’t personally believe that someone who’s hacked the site is likely to go to the trouble of filling in the First / Last name as a part of a confirmation request. Perhaps they will, but if they’re even quasi-lazy, this will help to weed out the real subscribers from the chaff.

(On a side note: For the off chance that someone does run into this again with our site, please let me know so I can get it fixed sooner. An email to isyldar@uruexploration.net will work just fine.)
