Calling for Researchers!

Recorded in: News Journal,Site News — Isyldar @ 7:19 pm Cavern Time

I had a thought just now, that some time in the Cavern whilst events are quiet could be put to good use: Age Assistants!

We’ve all needed them at one point or another (or at least to not-so-very-stubborn of us have ;) ), so why not work on a few documents that can be written under the ideal of, “here’s a few notes to get you through this Age.”

I don’t think we need to go to the point of writing all-out walkthroughs or spoilers for each individual Age, though if someone were to do that, I don’t see why we wouldn’t post it.

I’m curious to see what everyone else thinks on this. So…comment away!

A Quick Journey, That was not so Quick

Recorded in: Izy's Journal,News Journal — Isyldar @ 1:38 pm Cavern Time

Well, the busy season at work has started to slow down. In fact, I finally get to have a real day off! I’m tres excited for it. :) So, with the spare time in mind, I made a trip back down to the Cavern.

The place is quiet.

There are still Explorers roaming about the place. I ran into a few in the Guild of Greeters (GoG) Bevin while I was there. I had seen Zedra online, so I stopped in to see how things were going. As it turns out, one of the main reasons for my return had occurred: The 12th Sparkler. :)

Despite the likely spoiler involved, I’m going to post my KIpic from Relto for those who are really curious: [ Sparkler Finale ]

After obtaining this, an Explorer named (9GW) Dragon Claw asked for some assistance in completing Ahnnonay when their friend “spontaneously left the Cavern.” I readily obliged. I was definately curious to see if I remembered the exact theory behind moving those spheres. Turns out I did. That Nadnerb is a half-decent teacher. ;)

At any rate, I must go back to life in other worlds for the time being. With things slowing down on the surface, I’m sure I’ll be able to find more time to return.

Until then…

Winter Holidays of Renaissance Europe
A Cavern Choir concert

Sunday, December 16, 2007
2:00pm EST / 7:00pm GMT
Eder Delin, GameBoomer’s Bevin

The Renaissance saw an explosion of innovation in all of the fine arts, music chief among them. Composers across Europe explored new expressive possibilities and created exquisite music for their patrons, for their nation, and for their faith. The Cavern Choir presents songs from the period both familiar and rarely performed, in celebration of the winter holidays. Our selection ranges across the European continent, displaying diverse musical styles and traditions, and represents the three major faith traditions for which choral music was written during the period: Catholicism, Protestantism, and Judaism. Come join us as we bring holiday cheer to the Cavern with our rich sound and exciting repertoire! Reserve your ticket now for a concert not to be missed!

Some reviews of our debut concert, A Lover’s Complaint:

“The choir certainly brings ‘class’ to the Cavern!”

“In terms of the singers’ talent, the performance was impervious to harm!”

“That was absolutely amazing. When I started listening to it, my mom had my little sister pause a movie so they could listen too.”

Reserve your ticket before December 12! We look forward to seeing you at our concerts!

Cavern Manners: How to Act Like a Person When You Are Not One
A Discussion Seminar
Saturday December 15th at 15:00 KI time in K’veer

Everyone learned good manners growing up, but what are “good manners” when you are in the cavern? When do you say hi or wave to another explorer and when can you run past them? How should you behave at public meetings? How and when should you use age chat, buddy chat, hood chat and PM? What things do you apologize for to other explorers?

Come join us for a discussion in K’veer on Saturday Dec. 15th at 15:00 KI time hosted the Society of Anthropologists, Psychologists and Sociologists. There will be no lectures or presentations, just these and more questions with plenty of discussion. We will use a format that gives everyone a chance to speak while everyone else listens.

More event details can be found here.

Of hard drives and hardware

Recorded in: Nad's Journal — Nadnerb @ 4:08 pm Cavern Time

My main system recently suffered a hard drive failure. The thing that gets me about hard drive failures is that they appear to be inevitable. You get a new drive, and wonder, “How long will THIS one last?” Of course, you never properly back up your data anyway, since your new drive will inevitably be much larger than the last one, and you’d have to get another to fit everything you’re going to have to back up. So goes the cycle.

So, after a surprising amount of frustrations involving attempts to recover the dead drive’s files, I’m finally succeeding in installing XP again. However, until I can recover files off of my old drive, all my age building work is gone, along with plenty of other stuff.

Last I checked, my GameTap account has lapsed as well, and my renewal at this point, will depend on either an announcement regarding a new season, or some sort of highly interesting player event. (Or, I may just want in again. ;) )

Anyway, I’ll be busy restoring my computer related things to some semblance of normal for a while, so just letting everyone know what’s up.

The Downtime

Recorded in: Site News — Isyldar @ 12:50 am Cavern Time

I am terribly sorry for the site downtime folks. The issue was mine. I’ve been away from a computer long enough that I wasn’t getting my domain name notices. Heh. (And then I screwed up the renewal, so getting things fixed took a little longer than they should have.)

That said, things are back to normal, and this will not be a risk for yet another year. Thanks for your understanding. Hopefully we can all get back to the usual writing… :D

Students of D’ni Knowledge Meetings

Recorded in: Events — Nadnerb @ 3:03 pm Cavern Time

These weekly meetings occur in the Students of D’ni Knowledge Bevin, and usually consist of a 2 hour discussion of some element of D’ni history. Our host, DocOlanA, seems to be able to get official new translations from someone at the DRC. (It used to be Nick White, but he was fired) When we are not discussing fresh new translations, we go over one of the King’s stories from the Hall of Kings in detail. You can see chatlogs of all previous meetings at www.sodk.org, the group’s new website.
